Apple AirPods Pro

What are the new AirPods?

The updated Apple AirPods are better than the original version in almost every way. They sound better, they fit better, and they connect to more devices seamlessly and reliably.

Battery life is similar, but you can now turn them on or off just by removing them from your ears. These new AirPods are an excellent product that you should definitely consider if you're looking for wireless earbuds!

Build Quality

The new Apple AirPods have a few updates that make them worth considering if you're looking for wireless earbuds, but they are still pretty pricey at $155. If you already own a pair of 1st generation AirPods, you can use your old headphones with an Apple adapter, or buy an accessory called AirPod Charging Case.

Otherwise, here's what has changed from last year: There's an optional wireless charging case that doesn't need to be plugged in to charge. It also supports stereo sound, which was previously limited to iPhone users. The hands-free Siri activation option is now activated via double-tap instead of double-tap and hold.

Apple’s made a lot of noise about these new wireless earbuds, which they say are their most popular product ever. It’s true: Apple sold more than 29 million units in 2017 alone.

The company has announced that it’s sold a total of 140 million since releasing them two years ago. But how do they stack up? Apple claims that battery life is now extended to five hours—that’s 25% longer than before—but what else is different?

Here’s a quick rundown: There are minor aesthetic changes, including three little dots on each earbud casing to help you distinguish left from right.

Features

The new charging case is significantly smaller than its predecessor. This is great because it’s now way easier to store in your backpack or pocket, but also bad because it’s easy to lose if you're not careful.

I know a few friends who have misplaced their cases; luckily for them, Apple replaced them for free. The case has a lightning port that can be used to charge your iPhone XS and XR with no additional adapter required!

You can keep your headphones charged when you don't need them and quickly jump back into action when you do. These were my favorite part about using Apple AirPods before and they've only gotten better since then—but there are still some kinks to work out before they can be perfect.

Testing Methodology

The  airpods pro do an excellent job of cutting out most background noise. I tested them on a plane and in busy areas like NYC subway stations, both with positive results.

They're comfortable to wear for hours at a time, and don't leave me with any uncomfortable or irritated skin at all. With my first generation AirPods, I would get ear aches from wearing them too long. The charging case is very convenient and compact, though it's not as durable as some might like.

 It definitely feels less expensive than Apple's typical product quality, but that's really no surprise given its price point.

Sound Quality

I tested it with an iPad and my iPhone X. I used both Apple Music and Spotify via Bluetooth, playing music on one earbud at a time. In terms of physical design, there aren’t any big changes in AirPods pro —they look exactly like their predecessor.

 The biggest update is speed: to connect, you can simply open your case near your iPhone or iPad and wait for a couple seconds for them to pair automatically; no waiting around required.

Even more impressively, switching between devices was very quick—in some cases I didn’t even have to ask Siri What device am I connected to? because it happened that fast.

Overall Sound Quality Summary

The first-generation Apple AirPods had excellent sound quality for their price, and there are few people who have issues with how they sound. If you're looking for great-sounding Bluetooth earbuds at a low price, then these should be your first stop.

You can read our full review to learn more about why we love them. The new Apple AirPods are almost identical in terms of features and pricing, but they offer slightly improved sound quality at higher volumes thanks to deeper bass and a little less distortion at maximum volume.

That said, you still won't get audiophile-quality audio out of these. What you will get is high-quality audio that's better than many competing wireless options under $160.

W1 Chip and Bluetooth Connectivity

When I first listened to my airpods pro , it was like nothing had changed. I didn’t have any expectations going into it, but with little effort they played great music.

It is hard to review sound because everybody has different ears and what sounds good to one person might not sound so good to another. In my experience with my 1st gen airpods, there were a lot of times where I thought the bass was lacking;

however, after listening for about two days on these new airpods it seems that all of that got fixed in these pro versions.

Battery Life and Fast Charging

The W1 chip makes it easy to connect to your iPhone and even easier to connect other W1-enabled headphones. I’ve never been a fan of carrying around a lot of extra wires, so it’s great that AirPods get rid of those completely—and Bluetooth connectivity lets you listen when you have no other options.

 Plus, if you happen to lose an earbud or two, you don’t have to worry; AirPods can sense when both buds are out and pause your music automatically. It also helps that these are some of my favorite earbuds overall;

I wear them every day and they always provide exceptional sound quality and comfort no matter how long I’m listening for.
